The spiritual mold of education

The spiritual mold of education

The stress on education as a spiritual mold is basically an Indian concept.
This concept has been originated basically from the religious core of Indian
ethos. Right from the Vedic period, Indian spiritual thinkers have tried their
best to propagate education as means of achieving spiritual goals.

Upanishads: “Education is that whose end product is salvation”.

The Rig Veda: “Education is something which makes a man self-reliant and
selfless”.

Sankaracharya: “Education is the realization of the cosmic self’’.

Swami Vivekananda: “Education is the manifestation of perfection already in
man”.

Panini said, “Education means the training which one gets from nature”.

Swamy Dayanand: “ Education should develop in man those noble and divine
qualities which enable him to tread the harsh path in the quest of truth”.

A. S. Altekar: “Education has always been regarded in India as a source of
illumination and power which transforms and enables our nature which is
essentially good and divine”. All these definitions underline the
presupposition that human beings are creations of God, the omnipresent,
omniscient, and omnipotent. It is education whose role is to bring out the
divinity already existing in man and help him to realize himself as well as
lead him to achieve salvation.
