To make a phone call, first of all, I have to lift the receiver. If I have the
dial tone (a continuous sound). I dial the number I want. The person at the
other end of the wire will say ‘Hello’, Then, I have to ask: Could I speak to
so and so?’ The person will reply: ‘Speaking and I have to tell him/her what I
want to say.

Thus, a phone call is made.
